Studying Geography in the IEC combines the knowledge and understanding and skills of a traditional Geography program with an intensive English language program.
Students are encouraged to identify, discuss and respond to a range of geographical issues and themes which affect them and the world around them. They are encouraged to think critically about problems and not be afraid to express their opinion.
With the assistance of EALD specialist teachers, the teaching and learning program at Fairfield IEC combines current Australian Curriculum outcomes and 21st century learning skills within an effective and supportive language teaching framework.
Beginning with the study of the Australian continent, students then move onto study topics such as sustainability, global environments, water in the world and urbanisation. IEC teachers encourage and develop skills in mapping, data interpretation, ICT and visual literacy.
On completion, students are assisted with their transition into the mainstream high school of their choice.
