PDHPE

The aim of PDHPE at Fairfield IEC is to provide students with the skills needed to prepare for positive, long, active and healthy lives. Some of these skills include communicating, decision-making, interacting, moving, planning and problem solving.

Students learn content based on the NSW PDHPE syllabus, which includes the following strands:

  • Self & relationships
  • Movement skill & performance
  • Individual & community health
  • Lifelong physical activity

An example of the topics studied in PDHPE at the IEC include:

  • Personal hygiene
  • Healthy food choices
  • Drug education
  • Road safety
  • Puberty and sexual health
  • Water safety and first aid
  • Healthy relationships
  • Active lifestyles
  • Anti-bullying

Physical Education (PE) is an important part of PDHPE and gives the students an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports, games and activities that are played in Australia. PDHPE also encompasses the following programs to enhance students' integration into Australian life:

  • Learn to swim program
  • NRL ILIU program
  • AFL Auskick program
  • Netball NSW ‘Girl ready' program
  • Football United Soccer program
